Celebrating Successful Innovation!

95% of older people live in the community and there are many gaps in services to support them.

Enliven is based on positive aging principles that recognise older people are citizens with important roles in supporting families and within communities

The way that we support older people is changing and evolving more rapidly today than ever before. The things that used to work, now just don’t fit. Older people are telling us that they want to stay at home. Government policy and strategy is clear that this is the direction of the future for services for older people.

Presbyterian Support has embraced this challenge; we are working with together as a National group to develop innovative new ways of supporting older people. Enliven Restorative Home Support is an example of the successful work we are doing. This service is offered to frail older people who are assessed as needing rest home care but wish to remain in their own home. By working together with the older person and their family/whanau in recovery/strengths focused way our clients are reconnecting with their communities, recovering physical ability and ageing in the place of their choice. Piloted in partnership with Hawke’s Bay District Health Board for the past two years Enliven has received positive evaluations through independent research and this month been confirmed as a permanent service. Enliven will now be able to offer more than double the number of places to older people Hastings and Napier. A Non-complex service for those clients who have regained independence will complement the picture.
